Saxophonist Ornette Coleman, one of the major innovators of the free jazz movement of the 1960s, released his debut album, Something Else, in 1958, followed over the next decade by more than 15 critically acclaimed albums, including Free Jazz and The Shape of Jazz to Come. In 1997, his symphonic work, Skies of America, was performed at the Lincoln Center Festival in New York City. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Coleman also performs on the violin and trumpet.
