Julian Edwin "Cannonball" Adderley was a jazz alto saxophonist of the hard-bop era. Originally from Tampa, Florida, "Cannonball" was already a legend before moving to New York City in the 1950s to play with his brother (Nat Adderley). Songs made famous by Adderley and his bands include This Here, The Jive Samba, Mercy, Mercy, Mercy, and Walk Tall. Featuring an explosive live set recorded in 1963, his album Nippon Soul: Cannonball Adderley is considered to be the first recording of an American jazz artist in Japan.
