John Lee Hooker

From the seminal “Boogie Chillun” (1948) and “I’m In the Mood” (1951) to the storming “Boom Boom” (1962), John Lee Hooker achieved superstar status with a one-chord, talking blues style that made him king of the boogie.  Recording over 100 albums, with an early catalog revealing a host of aliases from Texas Slim to Little Pork Chops, Hooker’s popularity rode from the ‘50s rock wave to the folk boom of the ‘60s.  Born in Clarksdale, Miss., Hooker’s 1990 release, The Healer, sold 1.5 million copies, securing his first Grammy.
